Procedure
To a solution of benzyl-(3-p-tolyl-thieno[3,2-c]pyridin-4-yl)-amine (314 mg, 0.984 mmol), in THF (5 ml) cooled to 0° C., was added N-bromosuccinimide (168 mg, 0.984 mmol) and the reaction stirred for 1.5 h. The reaction was then allowed to warm to room temperature and the solvent removed in vacuo. The crude residue was partitioned between NH4Cl (25 ml) and DCM (10 ml), the organic layer dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo. No further purification was required. The product was obtained as a yellow solid (390 mg, quantitative).
