Procedure

tert-Butyl 2-benzenesulphonylamino-1-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-indole-3-carboxylate (Intermediate 21, 0.3 g) was added to HCl in dioxane (4M, 3.8 ml) at 0° C. The cold bath was removed and the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and then stirred for 2 hours. The mixture was cooled to 0° C. and neutralised with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to dryness and the residue was triturated with DCM (15 ml). The solid was collected by filtration and triturated with hot ethyl acetate (3 ml). The solid was collected by filtration and air dried to afford 2-benzenesulphonylamino-1-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid (0.017 g) as a white solid.
