To a solution of N-(3-(4-chloro-1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)benzamide (0.396 g, 1.00 mmol) and potassium carbonate (0.207 g, 1.50 mmol) in acetone (10 mL) was added tert-butyl bromoacetate (0.215 g, 1.10 mmol). The reaction was stirred at 65° C. for 1 hour and then cooled to room temperature and partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer was washed with water (×2) and brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to a white solid (0.464 g, 91.0%). LCMS m/z (%)=510 (M+H, 35Cl, 30), 512 (M+H, 37Cl, 10), 454 (M-tBu+H, 35Cl, 100). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.47 (s, 9H) 3.80 (s, 3H) 4.52 (s, 2H) 6.87 (d, J=9.09 Hz, 1H) 7.45 (d, J=2.78 Hz, 1H) 7.50 (s, 1H) 7.64 (t, J=7.71 Hz, 1H) 7.78-7.89 (m, 2H) 7.94 (s, 1H) 8.07 (d, J=7.83 Hz, 1H) 8.14 (s, 1H).
