To a solution of 2-(3-chlorophenyl)-N-(4-vinylphenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclopenta[b]pyridin-4-amine (0.100 μg, 0.29 mmol) in acetone (10 mL) and water (5 mL) was added 4-methylmorpholine N-oxide (0.189 g, 1.44 mmol), followed by potassium osmate dehydrate (0.002 g, 0.06 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred at rt overnight. After this time, the mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica, hexanes/ethyl acetate), followed by the formation of the hydrochloride salt to afford the title compound (0.033 g, 32%) as a light yellow solid. MW=417.33. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 500 MHz) δ 14.03 (s, 1H), 9.79 (s, 1H), 7.89 (t, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 7.72-7.64 (m, 2H), 7.63-7.57 (m, 1H), 7.45 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 7.36 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 7.00 (s, 1H), 4.57 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 1H), 3.51-3.45 (m, 2H), 3.15 (t, J=7.6 Hz, 2H), 2.92 (t, J=7.6 Hz, 2H), 2.29-2.20 (m, 2H); APCI MS m/z 381 [M+H]+.
