2-vinylpiperidin-4-one (4.85 g, 38.7 mmol) in acetonitrile (40 ml) was added 1-(chloromethyl)-3-isopropoxybenzene (7.16 g, 38.7 mmol) and finely ground K2CO3 (16.1 g, 116 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 12 hrs. The solution was filtered, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel Biotage 65i, eluting with 15% ethyl acetate/hexanes.
