Procedure
A mixture of 89C (75 mg, 0.5 mmol), 3,4-dimethoxyphenylboronic acid (91 mg, 0.5 mmol) and glyoxylic acid monohydrate (46 mg, 0.5 mmol) in acetonitrile (1.0 mL) and DMF (0.1 mL) was heated at in a microwave reactor at 100° C. for 10 min. The precipitate formed was collected by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated and the residue was triturated with ethyl acetate and ether. This solid was combined with the original precipitate to give 89D (76 mg, 44%) as an orange solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ ppm 2.26 (s, 3H) 3.81 (s, 3H) 3.82 (s, 3H) 5.09 (s, 1H) 6.70 (s, 1H) 6.92 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H) 7.00 (s, 1H) 7.02 (s, 1H) 7.07 (dd, J=8.4, 2.2 Hz, 1H) 7.11 (d, J=1.8 Hz, 1H).
