Procedure
A mixture of 3-{4-[1-(1-benzenesulfonyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-2-yl)-2-cyclopentyl-vinyl]-phenyl}-pentan-3-ol (220 mg, 0.43 mmol) in ethanol (6 mL), tetrahydrofuran (8 mL) and an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10%, 1.5 mL) was heated at 50° C. for 48 h. The mixture diluted with dichloromethane (50 mL), washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then concentrated in vacuo to afford 3-{4-[2-cyclopentyl-1-(1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-2-yl)-vinyl]-phenyl}-pentan-3-ol (120 mg, 75%) which was used in the next step without further purification: LC/MS m/e calcd for C25H30N2O [M+H]+ 375.53, observed 375.3.
