To a solution of 3-(7-hydroxy-5-azaspiro[2.4]heptane-5-yl)propanol (1.14 g, 6.67 mmol) and Et3N (1.35 g, 13.34 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (1.15 g, 10 mmol) dropwise at 0° C. The reaction was then stirred at 0° C. for 3 hrs. The reaction mixture was washed with cold water (10 mL) and the organic layer was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as orange oil. The crude product was used for the next step without further purification.
