Procedure

Compound 77A (176 mg, 0.5 mmol) in MeOH (4 ml) was treated with K2CO3 (69.1 mg, 0.5 mmol) and stirred at ambient temperature for about 40 minutes. The reaction mixture was concentrated to remove MeOH, diluted with EtOAc and acidified to pH 5 with 1N HCl solution. The mixture was poured into a separatory funnel and the layers were separated. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (2×40 mL). The combined organic layers were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to provide the title compound 77B as an off-white solid in 67% yield: 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 10.26 (1H, s), 9.84 (1H, s), 7.63 (1H, m), 7.20 (5H, m), 6.93 (2H, m), 1.94 (3H, s).
