Procedure

A solution of EXAMPLE 161B (400 mg) and borane in tetrahydrofuran (1M, 2.5 mL) in tetrahydrofuran (6 mL) was stirred for 24 hours. The reaction was quenched with methanol, taken up in pH 7 buffer solution, and extracted three times with ethyl acetate. The combined extracts were washed with brine and concentrated. The crude product was taken up in HBr in acetic acid (1.1 mL) and stirred for 2 hours. The reaction was poured into CH2Cl2 (50 mL) and washed with 1M NaOH solution. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated.
