A stirred suspension of methyl 3-({3-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]propyl}amino)-4-nitrobenzoate (6.5 g, 18.4 mmol) in ethyl acetate (500 mL) is hydrogenated over 10% palladium on carbon (2.6 g) under balloon pressure for 4 h. The catalyst is removed by filtration through Celite, washing well with ethyl acetate. The solvent is evaporated to afford the title compound (4.72 g, 80%) as a white solid. LCMS (Method T) 1.39 min, 324.70 (MH+).
