Procedure

To a solution of N-[4-chloro-2-(morpholin-4-ylmethyl)phenyl]-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (3.8 g, 11.8 mmol) in concentrated sulfuric acid (35 mL) cooled to 0° C. is added potassium nitrate (1.4 g, 14.1 mmol). The reaction is slowly warmed to room temperature over a period of 2 h and then poured into ice H2O. The mixture is neutralized with saturated aqueous K2CO3 and the resulting solid is collected by filtration to afford the title compound (3.6 g, 82%).
