Procedure

(R)-2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-carbaldehyde (6.9 g, 48 mmol) was dissolved in 1:1 methanol water (100 mL), and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (3.3 g, 48 mmol) and Na2CO3 (2.5 g, 24 mmol) were added. The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature overnight. The methanol was removed in vacuo and the remaining material was extracted with CH2Cl2, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford (S)-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-carbaldehyde oxime (5.7 g, 36 mmol, 75% yield).
