Procedure
A mixture of 4-chloro-1-(2-methylcyclohexyl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbaldehyde obtained in Step C (1.22 g), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (667 mg) and sodium acetate (787 mg) in methanol/water (4:1, 6.0 mL) was heated at 75° C. for 1 hr, and cooled to room temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water, and the resulting solid was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (1.19 g).
