Procedure
A mixture of 1-(2-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbaldehyde obtained in Step B (3.95 g), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (2.08 g) and sodium acetate (2.46 g) in methanol/water (4:1, 75.0 mL) was heated at 70° C. for 2 hr, cooled to room temperature, and poured into ice water. The resulting solid was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (3.88 g).
