Procedure
To a solution of (4-chloro-1-(2-chlorophenyl)-5-cyano-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridin-2-yl)methyl acetate obtained in Step G (670 mg) in ethanol (3.97 mL) was added hydrazine monohydrate (398 mg) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hr. The resulting solid was collected by filtration, washed with water, and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (500 mg).
