Procedure
Following the procedure of Sachon et al.,42 D-biotin (83, 0.304 g, 1.24 mmol) was suspended in AcOH (3.0 mL) and then H2O2 (35% in H2O, 1.0 mL) was added at room temperature. The suspension became a colorless, clear solution after 10 min at room temperature, and biotin sulfoxide began to precipitate after 5 hours. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 65 hours, then filtered. The white filter cake was then washed with 20 mL of ether and dried under reduced pressure to provide 89 as a white solid (0.298 g, 1.08 mmol, 87%).
