Procedure
To a solution of (R)-1-(3-methoxypyridazin-4-yl)-3-(4-(1-(methylsulfonyl)piperidin-4-yl)phenyl)-3-o-tolylpropan-1-one (example 12, step 4; 50 mg, 0.10 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (1.5 mL) was added 37% aq. hydrochloric acid solution (0.17 mL, 2.0 mmol) and the resulting solution was heated at 80° C. for 2½ h, then after cooling partitioned between ethyl acetate and sat. aq. sodium hydrogencarbonate solution. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and evaporated to produce the title compound (54 mg), which was directly used in the next step. Colorless gum, MS: 480.3 [M+H]+.
