Procedure
1.00 g (6.78 mmol, 1 eq) of 5-aminopyrimidin 4-ol hydrochloride and 0.95 ml (6.78 mmol, 1 eq) of triethylamine were added to a suspension of 3.86 g (27.16 mmol, 4 eq) of 3,4-dimethoxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione in 20 ml of methanol. The reaction medium was heated at 50° C. for 18 hours. The reaction medium was left at ambient temperature. The precipitate was filtered off and washed with methanol. 1.19 g of product were obtained in the form of a yellow solid. Yield=79%.
