3.38 ml of triethylamine were added dropwise, over the course of 30 minutes, to a solution of 2.56 g of 3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride and 1.91 g of methyl (R)-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylate hydrochloride in 30 ml of dichloromethane (30 ml) cooled to 0° C. The reaction medium was left at ambient temperature and stirred for 1 hour. The reaction medium was diluted with 50 ml of dichloromethane, and washed with a 1 M sodium hydrogen phosphate solution (2×50 ml) and a saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution (50 ml). The organic phase was dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated 3.00 g of methyl (R)-1-(3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl)pyrrolidine-2-carboxylate were obtained and used in the next step without purification.
