To a solution of 1-{4′-[3-methyl-4-(3-phenethyl-oxiranyl)-isoxazol-5-yl]-biphenyl-4-yl}-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.421 g, 0.85 mmol) in benzene (4.2 mL) was added boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (1 M in Et2O, 0.94 mL, 0.94 mmol) and the reaction was stirred for 1 hour. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc and H2O, separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (0-50% EtOAc in hexanes) to give the title compound.
