To 1-(4-bromo-phenyl)-cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester (10.0 g, 37.2 mmol) in THF (100 mL) at 0° C. was added lithium aluminum hydride (2.11 g, 55.7 mmol) and the reaction was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. The mixture was quenched with H2O (2 mL), followed by 4 N aqueous NaOH (2 mL) and additional H2O (6 mL). After stirring for 15 minutes, the solid precipitate was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated and dried to give the title compound.
