Procedure
9-bromo-5,6-dihydro-2-methoxy-4H-pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-4-one (200 mg) obtained in Example 101, step 6 was suspended in ethanol (12 ml), and benzaldehyde (103 mg) and sodium hydroxide (190 mg) dissolved in water (1 ml) were added to the suspension. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours, and approximately half of the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The crystals precipitated were recovered by filtration, and washed with water, ethanol and ether in succession to obtain the title compound (217 mg, 87%).
