Procedure
A solution of 2-bromo-5-methylbenzoic acid (10 g) in trimethylsilyl chloride (30 ml) and methanol (100 ml) was stirred at room temperature overnight and evaporated. The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and sodium bicarbonate solution, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. Yield 10.1 g.
