Procedure

To a stirred solution of 277.5 mg (1.09 mmol) of the ester prepared in Example 14 in 5 mL of anhydrous THF at 0° C. was added dropwise 1.1 mL (1.1 mmol) of a 1M solution of lithium aluminum hydride in ether. The resulting mixture was stirred at 0° C. under nitrogen for 1.5 hours and then carefully quenched with Glaubers salt. The mixture was partitioned between EtOAc, ice, 2N HCl, and brine and the organic phase was separated, washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and evaporated. The residue was purified by PLC with CH2Cl2-EtOAc (10:1) to give 236.8 mg of the title compound.
