Procedure

30.7 g (0.16 mol) of 5-formyl-2-propionylcyclohexane-1,3-dione in 150 ml of distilled water were initially taken, and 21.0 g (0.19 mol) of hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid were added at room temperature. Stirring was then carried out overnight at room temperature. The precipitate was filtered off under suction, washed with water and dried. 23.8 g (71% of theory) of 3,5-dioxo-4-propionylcyclohexanenitrile of melting point 70-74° C. were obtained.
