Procedure

To a mixture of 1 ml of 47% hydrobromic acid and 1 ml of acetic acid was added 267 mg of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-one and stirred under reflux for 6 hours. After distilling off the solvent, water and aqueous NaHCO3 solution were added to the residue to adjust the pH value to 4 and extraction was made using ethyl acetate. After drying and concentrating the organic layer, the residue was recrystallized from ethanol to obtain 162 mg of Compound No.10 as colorless crystals.
