Spiro(1H-indene-1,4'-piperidine) (40 mg, 0.18 mmol) was suspended in CH2Cl2 (2 ml) and treated with triethylamine (52.6 μl, 0.378 mmol) followed by 4-fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (38.6 mg, 0.198 mmol). The reaction was stirred 1 hr at ambient temperature and chromatographed on a silica gel column eluted with 20% hexane in CH2Cl2. The product fractions were evaporated to dryness in vacuo and the residue crystallized from ether to provide the title compound: (mp 169°-174°).
