Reaction Steps
A mixture of cyclohexene oxide (Va) (9.81 g), ethanol (25 ml) and imidazole (13.6 g) was refluxed under heating for 70 hours. The ethanol was evaporated and after addition of a small amount of water, the residue was extracted with chloroform. The extract was washed with a small amount of water, dried and evaporated to give 2-imidazolylcyclohexanol (IVa) (12.7 g) as crystaline residue (Yield 76%). Mp. 133°-134° C.
