Procedure

A solution of 7-cyanomethyloxy-2,2-dimethyl-4-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl) chroman (5.4 g) and 10% palladium on charcoal (0.5 g) in ethanol (75 ml) was hydrogenated at atmospheric pressure. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate evaporated under reduced pressure to give an oil which was treated with ethereal hydrogen bromide to give the title compound (4 g) as a very hygroscopic noncrystalline compound.

Workup

  1. customThe catalyst was removed by filtration
  2. customthe filtrate evaporated under reduced pressure
