Procedure

A solution of 5-[[2-(amino)ethyl]thio]methyl-N-methyl-3-phenyl-2-furancarboxamide (1.4 g) in dry tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) at 0° was mixed with a 0.5 molar solution of aluminium hydride in tetrahydrofuran (50 ml). After 6 hours boiling at reflux, water (6 ml) was added and the filtered solution was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica/methanol) affording the title compound (0.45 g) as an oil,
