Procedure
A suspension of 0.1 g of the product of Step C, 10 ml of ethanol, 20 ml of water and 3 ml of 1 N sodium hydroxide solution was refluxed overnight and the resulting clear solution was acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The mixture was filtered to obtain 0.053 g of 4,5-dihydro-7,8-dibromo-4-oxoimidazo-[1,2-a]-quinoxaline-2-carboxylic acid as a buff crystalline solid.
