Reaction Steps
The mixture of 3 g of 4-phenoxy-3-furfurylamino-5-(2-acetamidophenylsulfamoyl)-benzoic acid and 30 ml of 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide is refluxed for 4 1/2 hours. After cooling to room temperature it is acidified with hydrochloric acid to pH = 2. The precipitate formed is filtered off and recrystallized from aqueous ethanol, to yield the 4-phenoxy-3-furfurylamino-5-(2-aminophenylsulfamoyl)-benzoic acid melting at 105°-110° with decomposition.
