Procedure
The cephem (XXIV) (29 mg) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (0.5 ml) and the solution was stood at room temperature for 30 minutes. The solution was evaporated and the residual gum re-evaporated from dry benzene (4 × 1 ml). The residual gum was dissolved in dry ether and evaporated to give the desired cephem carboxylic acid (XXVI) as a dark yellow solid foam (24 mg, 94%). νmax (CHCl3) 1775 cm-1 (β-lactam); 1675 cm-1 (amide).
