A mixture of 6-(4-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)-4,5-dihydro-3(2H)-pyridazinone (0.5 g, 0.002 mole), epichlorohydrin (2g, 0.02 mole), and piperidine (0.02 g) was heated on a steam bath for 1.5 hours. Evaporation under reduced pressure gave an oil which was dissolved in dichloromethane and shaken with dilute sodium hydroxide (5 ml). The organic phase was washed with water, dried and evaporated to an oil which with ethanol-ether gave crystalline 6-[4-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-1-naphthyl]-4,5-dihydro-3(2H)-pyridazinone (0.425 g, 69%, m.p. 151°-155°C). Crystallisation from ethanol gave the pure epoxide, m.p. 153.5°-155.5°C.
