Procedure
To 1.6.6 g. of 1,1,1-trichloro-3-(3-ethyl-4-pyridinyl)propan-2-ol dissolved in 1.2 l. of hot acetone was added a solution of 65.2 g. of d-tartaric acid in 1 l. of acetone. Upon cooling, crystalline material separated (66.8 g.) which after fractional crystallization from acetone, yielded pure 1,1,1-trichloro-3-(3-ethyl-4-pyridinyl)propan-2(R)-ol d-tartrate, m.p. 176°-177.5°, [α]D25 + 30.7° (c 0.960, ethanol)
