Procedure

A solution of 1 g. of ethyl 15-amino-9-oxo-prostanoate (Example 143) in 15 ml. of methanol-water (1:1) containing 445 mg. of potassium hydroxide is stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hours. The solution is acidifed with hydrochloric acid, saturated with sodium chloride, and extracted several times with methylene chloride. The organic phase is dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate and taken to dryness to give a viscous oil; λ max. 2.80 - 3.70 (broad), 5.75, and 5.87 μ.
