Procedure
0.5 g (1.8 mmol) of 9-ethyl-4-methoxy-1-methyl-6,7,8,9-tetrahydropyrido[2,3-g]quinol-2-one in 5 ml of 10% strength hydrochloric acid is heated to reflux for 2 h. The suspension is neutralized to pH 5 using 10% strength sodium acetate solution. The precipitate is filtered off with suction and dried in a desiccator.
