Reaction Steps

3 g of methyl 2-(1,2-dihydro-2,2-dimethylquinolin-6-yl)propionate (Compound 7) were added to absolute ethanol. Palladium-on-carbon was further added to the solution, and the mixture was reacted with bubbling hydrogen gas at room temperature for 4 hours with stirring. After the reaction, the catalyst was filtered off and ethanol was distilled off to give 3.1 g of methyl 2-(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,2-dimethylquinolin-6-yl)propionate (Compound 11).
