A mixture of 7-[3-methoxy-4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)phenyl]heptanal (3.8 g), ethylene glycol (1 g), p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate and toluene (50 ml) was stirred for 4 hours under reflux. The reaction mixture was cooled, which was then washed with water and dried (MgSO4), followed by distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to column chromatography on silica gel. From the fraction eluted with ethyl acetate-hexane (1:3), was obtained 2-[6-[3-methoxy-4-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)phenyl]hexyl]-1,3-dioxolan (3.9 g, 94%) as an oily product.
