A mixture of (2,4-Di-1-pyrrolidinyl-9H-pyrimido[4,5-b]indol-9-yl)acetic acid, t-butyl ester (VI, EXAMPLE 7, 2.5 g) in aqueous hydrochloric acid (1.0 M) is heated at reflux for 2 hr. The mixture is then cooled and concentrated to approximately one third of the original volume. Filtration of the resulting solid gives the title compound, mp 250-253°; NMR (CDCl3) 8.07, 7.35, 5.21, 4.10, 3.73 and 2.11 δ; IR (neat) 2925, 1736, 1627, 1608, 1568, 1445 and 1193 cm-1.
