Procedure
2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (1.3 g) was added to a solution of 2,2,2-trifluoro-N-(7-methyl-2,3-dihydro-benzofuran-5-yl)-acetamide (600 mg) in carbon tetrachloride (30 ml) and the resulting mixture heated at reflux for 4.5 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, the filtrate adsorbed on to silica and the residue purified by FCC eluting with ether-hexane (1:1) to give the title compound as a peach solid (590 mg), m.p. 96-97°.
