Procedure

A mixture of 20.0 g (27.3 mmol) of 2-chloro-4,6-bis[N-(1-cyclohexyloxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl)butylamino]-1,3,5-triazine, 25.1 g (0.164 mol) of sodium 6-aminohexanoate, and 200 ml of diglyme is heated at 140° C. for seven hours. The reaction mixture is partitioned between 1N HCl (500 ml) and ether (400 ml), and the aqueous phase is extracted with ether (200 ml). The combined organic layers are washed with water (2×200 ml) and saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution (200 ml), and then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and finally concentrated to obtain a glass. Purification by flash chromatography on silica gel (2:1 heptane:ethyl acetate) affords 15.7 g (69% yield) of the title compound as a white powdery glass.
