A mixture of 71 mg of 21-iodo-20-methyl-1α,3β-bis-(methoxycarbonyloxy)pregna-5,7-diene, 80 mg of sodium benzenesulfinate and 3 ml of dimethylformamide was stirred at 40° C. for 7 hours. The reaction mixture was subjected to the same isolation and purification procedure in Example 5 to give 42 mg of 20-methyl-1α,3β-bis(methoxycarbonyloxy)-21-phenylsulfonylpregna-5,7-diene, whose 1H NMR spectrum was identical with that obtained in Example 5.
