9 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid were added to a solution of 38.4 g (139 mmol) of N-2-[4-(1,1-dimethylethoxy)phenoxy]ethoxypyrazole in 400 ml of ethanol/water (10/1) and the mixture was then refluxed for 8 h. After cooling to RT, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure, the residue was taken up in ethyl acetate, and the solution was washed several times with water. Drying and concentration of the organic phase resulted in 29.6 g (97%) of the required compound as a viscous oil which was employed without further purification in the next stage.
