A mixture of 0.45 g of 4-amino-5-nitro-1H-pyridin-2-one and 0.87 g of 2-methoxy-4-methylmercapto-benzoyl chloride was refluxed for 8 hours in 10 ml of chlorobenzene. The precipitated product was suction-filtered off, washed with methylene chloride and used in the next step as the crude product without further purification.
