N-tertiarybutoxycarbonyl-O-benzyl-L-tyrosine N-methylamide (3 g) was added to a mixture of TFA and CH2Cl2 (1:1 100 ml) at room temperature. After 15 minutes volatiles were removed in vacuo and the residue was dissolved in water. Neutralisation with solid sodium bicarbonate, extraction into CH2Cl2 and evaporation of the organic extract in vacuo then gave a solid. Co-evaporation of this with ethereal HCl gave O-benzyl-L-tyrosine N-Methylamide hydrochloride.
