Procedure
A mixture of 1,3-dihydro-1-(5-chloro-2-hydroxyphenyl)-5-fluoro-2H-benzimidazol-2-one (300 mg, 1.1 mmol), anhydrous potassium carbonate (415 mg) and Iodomethane (68 μl) in 10 ml absolute acetone was refluxed for 5 hours. The mixture was filtered, concentrated in vacuo and the crude product was subjected to column chromatography using methylene chloride:acetone (20:1) as eluent. The fraction containing the product was concentrated in vacuo and the title compound was obtained as white crystals, M.p. 247°-250° C.
