A solution of 7 (0.6 g, 1.1 mmol) was combined with 0.24 g (1.2 mmol) methylpyrrolo[4,5-e]indoline-7-carboxylate (Boger et al, supra) and 0.1 ml triethylamine in 5 ml of anhydrous CH2Cl2. The mixture was kept at room temperature for 15 h and concentrated under vacuum. The resultant solid, which was the desired product, was washed with 50% ethyl acetate/50% hexane to remove unreacted starting materials and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenol. Drying under vacuum afforded 0.51 g (77%) of the title compound as a pale-yellow, crystalline solid.
