To a solution of 1-(2-azido-ethyl)-3-ethyl-3-(3-methoxy-phenyl)-azepan-2-one (as described above in Step B) (0.56 g, 1.94 mmol) in MeOH (20 mL) and 10% HCl (5 mL) was added 10% Pd/C (0.1 g) under argon. The mixture was placed under 1 atm of H2 and stirred for 2 hr. Filtration and concentration to dryness gave the title compound.
